The Egoscue Method®
Pete Egoscue, anatomical physiologist, developed an approach to treat pain and improve sports efficiency called Egoscue Method®. It is a process based on the concept that the body develops and is maintained through motion and responds to stimulus. Motion strengthens the muscles and muscles move the bones. Postural deviations and muscular dysfunctions that cause pain are typically the result of not enough motion and muscle atrophy, or too much of the same, repetitive movements and muscle over development and imbalances. Whether you sit for prolonged periods or are an athlete continually engaging in the same sport you are receiving too much “bad” stimulus or not enough “good” stimulus to maintain musculoskeletal function and design posture.
Design Posture
- Head is centered over level shoulders.
- The shoulders sit over level hips.
- The hips are firmly planted over symmetrical knees.
- The knees and ankles are aligned with feet pointed straightforward.
Egoscue® posture alignment therapy provides the body with “good” stimulus through the use of E-cises. E-cises are stretching and strengthening exercises that remind the body of proper function and design posture.
Motion + Design = Function
This approach treats the body as a unit and looks for the underlying postural cause of the pain. Often times where the body hurts is not the origin of the pain. It is not uncommon to use E-cises on the shoulders or upper back to alleviate hip pain. Through the process, muscular compensations are addressed, function is re-established, posture improves, pain is diminished, and performance is elevated.

Skype Therapy
Real time therapy administered through the computer program Skype. An Internet connection and webcam are required for these video calls. Services and cost are the same as In-Person Therapy below.
In-Person Therapy
Initial Assessment
During the first session we will discuss your pain and injury history, prior treatments and results, activities, limitations, and long and short-term goals. This will be followed by a postural assessment, which may include posture photos and movement analysis to determine musculoskeletal disparities and the structural cause of your pain or reduced performance. E-cises will be practiced to reduce your pain and address the underlying postural problem. You will leave with a personalized menu of printed E-cises for your home program. Plan on two hours for the initial assessment.
Follow-up Visits
Follow-up appointments are approximately one hour and begin with a review of the prior E-cise menu and postural re-evaluation. Menu modifications are made according to pain and postural changes.
Office Visits
Office visits are conducted in Los Alamos, NM in the Mary Deal Building.
Travel Clinics
I am extending my posture alignment therapy service to the Wood River Valley, ID. Travel clinics are held in Hailey. Check the schedule for my next visit.
Attire
To best evaluate posture, shorts or loose pants that can be rolled up past the knees are recommended. A tight fitting top or sports bra for women is also recommended.
Pricing
The Egoscue Method® of re-training the body to achieve better alignment is a process. Achieving successful results is dependent on the client doing a daily E-cise menu, openly communicating with me, and follow-up appointments for re-assessment and progression.
To help you meet your goals multiple session packages are offered with a lower price per session for a larger commitment to the process. Checks and cash are accepted forms of payment. The Egoscue Method® is not covered by insurance.
